There are three principal themes: the Submarine, with a visit of the Redoutable, the largest submarine open to the public in the world, and an exhibition of exploration devices; the Ocean, dedicated to the exploration and exploitation of the rich sea life, designed around the Aquarium Abyssal, the deepest in Europe; and “Walking under the sea”, a virtual underwater adventure to discover the landscapes of underwater oases and wonderful sea creatures.

Property of the City of Cherbourg-Octeville since 1935, the park, château and greenhouse are classified as Historic Monuments. The 17-hectare park was classified in 2004 as a “Jardin Remarquable" (Remarkable Garden). There is a playground, and a tearoom which is open during the summer in the Jardin des Vents. The château’s principal façade was restored in 2008.
